of Albert Ellis Institute

Primary Certificate Training: Applications of REBT with Children and Adolescents

Conducted by Drs. Ann Vernon and Shishir Palsapure

After many successful batches so far, announcing the next batch.

The Primary Certificate Course in Child and Adolescent Counseling is designed to provide a brief, intensive introduction to the principles and strategies of Rational-Emotive & Cognitive Behavior Therapy as they specifically apply to children and adolescents and parents. This practicum consists of 12 hours of the seminar including the following topics:

  • An overview/review of the principles and practices of REBT

  • Specific applications of REBT with children and adolescents, including how to apply the ABC model using creative, developmentally-appropriate strategies.

  • Applications with parents: helping them identify and dispute their irrational beliefs so they can deal with their emotional problems that interfere with their ability to parent effectively.

  • Creative, developmentally-appropriate interventions for internalizing disorders of childhood and adolescence (depression, anxiety, and perfectionism) and externalizing disorders (anger and procrastination).

The second part of the training is focused on skill development, where participants will work with a partner and practice implementing the REBT counselling process. This 12-hour part of the training will be very specific, with feedback from supervisors as to how to best implement the theory and practice of REBT.
